Review on Gung-Ho
A well-liked neighbourhood fixture of the West Hampstead restaurant scene, Gung-Ho pleases the crowds with its classic Chinese dishes and regional specialities. Inside it is pleasing on the eye, and the food is matched by ever-helpful, smiling service.
From the varied list of hot and cold appetisers, you might choose braised 'mo-sak' spare ribs with star anise and rock sugar, Peking ravioli, deep-fried tofu with peppercorn salt or hot-sweet cabbage salad. If seafood is your thing, try 'kung-po' hot chilli prawns with walnuts, sautéed fresh squid in Szechuan sauce or red-braised monkfish with Chinese mushrooms and soy. Otherwise, look for crispy Mongolian lamb, quick-fried veal with leeks or braised 'cheng-du' duck in sweet-and-sour plum sauce. Toffee lychees with sesame seeds and sweet bean paste pancakes round things off with a flourish.
