Review on Park Inn Mulranny, Nephin Restaurant
Spectacularly re-designed as a four-star luxury destination, this hotel began life as the Great Western Hotel in 1897 when it was an important stopover for railway travellers en route from Westport to Achill Island. It stands spectacularly at the heart of a 42-acre woodland estate overlooking the Atlantic, just a stroll away from the nearby Blue Flag beach.
The stylish Nephin Restaurant is the hotel's 'pièce de resistance' – a beautifully appointed room with unrivalled sea views from its windows. Typical offerings have included a vibrant seared tuna and star anise terrine with yellow pepper ice cream, tomato and lime salsa followed by blue cheese-crusted fillet of Irish beef with celeriac and truffle cream and red wine jus. The food is backed by a well-chosen international wine list.
