Review on JoJo's
JoJo's in Whitstable has moved location from their Victorian House in Tankerton Road, to a one-storey building on Herne Bay Road with panoramic views over the North Sea. It is owned by chef Nikki Billington and her partner Paul Watson who is charge of front-of-house.
JoJo's in Whitstable prides itself on a cool, low-key approach to things, the light and airy dining room has plain wooden chairs set against simply laid wood tables. The venue now has the added bonus of a coffee shop which is open from 9.00am to 5.00pm Tuesday to Sunday. Ingredients are carefully sourced and the owners put their faith in organic and local produce garnered from farmer's markets, smallholdings and Whitstable's fishermen.
'Meat, meze and fish' is the gastronomic mantra, and the ever-changing menu makes lively reading. Slices of seared Kentish wild venison are served on ciabatta, Serrano Bodega ham comes with candied pears and peppers and the line-up of meatless specialities includes deep-fried risotto balls with basil and Parmesan mayo (a bestseller); added to that are homemade puds including mini Pavlovas and chocolate brownies.
JoJo's offers a range of quality wines with some options available by the glass, but if you prefer to pay a small corkage, you are welcome to bring your own wine. Note that payment is by cash or cheque only: no credit cards.
JoJo's is also featured in: Michelin Guide, Good Food Guide, Hardens, AA Guide
