Review on The Fox
A serious contemporary makeover has revitalised The Fox, a one-time local 'boozer' opposite Willian's village pond. Inside it's been given a fresh, almost continental look with clean lines, bare floors, light wood furnishings and modern art on the walls.
The pub's new lease of life is due largely to new owner Cliff Nye, who also runs the White Horse at Brancaster Staithe on the North Norfolk coast. His connections ensure that East Anglian seafood gets a good airing on the menu: hand-picked mussels might be served in a saffron cream, Brancaster oysters are presented 'au naturel' or grilled with Parmesan, while seared black bream and scallops could be partnered by spring onion mash and saffron-pickled fennel.
Elsewhere, the kitchen tackles pheasant, chicken and foie gras mousse, pan-roasted loin of local venison with mash, crispy pancetta, black pudding and thyme jus, and desserts like poppy seed and praline pannacotta with apricot compote. To drink, there are real ales from East Anglian breweries, plus a decent selection of wines from around the globe.
