Review on Fox and Grapes
The Fox and Grapes situated in Wimbledon and once owned by Michelin star chef Claude Bosi, is now part of the Jolly Fine Pub Group, who also operate The Malt House in Fulham, The Victoria in East Sheen and craft lager specialists Freedom Brewery. The Fox and Grapes has a rustic décor with modern touches as in the leather bar chairs around the central bar area, while diners are seated in a cosy relaxed area at the back of the venue.
The menus are in the capable hands of TV personality and Chef Director Paul Merrett, who previously held a Michelin star at L'interlude restaurant in Charlotte Street and The Greenhouse in Mayfair. The crowd-pleasing menu offers starters such as slow braised pigs cheek, wholegrain mustard mash, crispy sage and shallot rings or pan fried stone bass, aubergine, courgette and basil purée, olive crumb, caper and shallot dressing. Main courses usher in Salt marsh lamb rump, braised shoulder, garden peas, smoked bacon and baby onions or from the sea there's herb crusted cod fillet, shaved fennel, samphire, curly kale and Pernod velouté. Finely executed desserts close the show with red wine poached pear and prunes, Madeleine and vanilla ice cream or sticky toffee pudding, butterscotch sauce and vanilla ice cream.
The atmosphere is very welcoming with knowledgeable staff, and there's a global wine list with plenty of options available by the glass.
