Review on Lindeth Howe Country Hotel
Children's author Beatrix Potter once owned Lindeth Howe and illustrated several of her famous stories during her tenure of the house. The place has been extended and upgraded over the years, but it's still easy to imagine the lady herself living and working here. In additions to its famous literary connections, the hotel is also renowned for its splendid views over the lake and the fells.
The kitchen provides light meals at lunchtime, but the highlight of the day is dinner in the traditional, conservatory restaurant overlooking the fells. Guests are offered a daily fixed-price menu of five courses in true Lakeland country house style: starters are things like confit duck and cranberry terrine, mains could feature Goosnargh chicken breast with wild mushroom ravioli or roast lamb with redcurrant and red wine jus, with desserts might feature seasonal Lyth Valley damson clafoutis.
