Review on Bel & The Dragon
A venerable eleventh-century alehouse in the shadow of Windsor Castle is the atmospheric setting for the Bel & The Dragon a country pub/eating house (now part of a little group with branches in Cookham, Reading, Churt, Kingsclere and Odiham).
Inside, it's an evocative mix of ancient and modern, with low beamed ceilings and original features blending with pine furnishings and contemporary fittings. The pub also boasts a delightful terrace by the banks of the Thames for al fresco meals.
The lengthy menu is a thoroughly modern assortment of eclectic pub/brasserie dishes that might include smoked chicken and mango spring rolls on cucumber 'spaghetti', char-grilled peppered yellow fin tuna on warm niçoise salad with a poached egg and pesto, and a trio of pork sausages on ham and leek mash with onion gravy. Desserts are things like vanilla pannacotta with strawberries and sticky toffee pudding.
