Review on Tower Brasserie, Harte & Garter Hotel
As its name suggests, this fine hotel overlooking Windsor Castle is the amalgam of two ancient medieval hostelries, the White Harte and the Garter Inn. The 'Jacobean-style' building was recently given a serious makeover, which has enhanced many of its original features and boosted its facilities.
The new Tower Brasserie makes a pleasing backdrop for food with a strong European slant. Typical dishes from the regularly changing menu might include roast shallot Tatin with foie gras and sherry reduction, fillet of organic salmon with artichoke hearts and sauce vierge, and dark Valrhona chocolate pudding with strawberry compote. In addition, there are daily specials and a few no-frills 'true Brit' classics for good measure.
Visitors can also enjoy the indulgent pleasures of traditional afternoon tea in the adjoining Tea Room. The hotel now offers attractive all-in packages with a tour of Windsor Castle included.
