Review on Lino's Restaurant

Lino and Barbara Galantini set up this neighbourhood restaurant in 1983 and their son Enrico is now carrying on the business. 'Nothing is too much trouble' is their motto, which means decent, honest food and bags of ebullient hospitality.

Enrico's travels around Europe have provided him with plenty of gastronomic inspiration, and his menus are set out with a musical theme. Starters ('The Prelude') might include moules marinière or a salad of duck breast with Victoria plum and ginger jam; next comes a gratis mid-course 'Intermezzo' consisting of - say - soup or penne with spinach cream sauce.

The centrepiece 'Symphony' might be escalopes of pork with apple sauce, cider and orange marmalade or 'caprice' of grilled salmon with roast garlic, parsley and Avruga caviar butter, while homemade desserts such as chocolate marquise, tiramisù and brioche bread-and-butter pudding provide the 'Finale'.

Mushrooms ala Fredrick's, Two large mushrooms stuffed with duck and chicken liver pate, egg washed, bread crumbed...deep fried and served with tartar sauce.

*Caesar salad with Hot chicken and streaky bacon, anchovies, chopped red onion, croutons, Caesar dressing...flakes of Parmesan cheese.

Chicken breast stuffed with chorizo sausage and black pudding, wrapped in streaky bacon and roasted, served with a piquant barbeque sauce.

Escallops of Pork loin cooked with touch of sage, white wine, onions,
sliced button mushrooms and cream.

Breast of duck, pan fried and sliced, served pink on a mixed bed of French beans, onions, Lardons, Parmentier potatoes....with a honey and balsamic jus. (GF)

Tuna Nicoise, pan fried tuna steak served with French beans, blush tomatoes, olives and sautéed potatoes. ( please say if you require your tuna cooked through) (GF)

Small Grilled Dover sole, On the bone with a lemon, nutmeg and parsley butter...new potatoes and asparagus tips. £2 extra (GF)

Supreme of pan fried Cod with a tomato, chorizo and butter bean ragout, on a bed of wilting spinach leaves... and crisp herb fries.

Enchilada, Kidney beans, cannellini beans and red lentils cooked in a spicy tomato sauce with onions, grated carrots and garlic. Wrapped in flour tortillas and baked...covered with melted cheddar cheese and a dollop of sour cream...served with Cajun wedges and salad.

Gnocchi tossed in a sauce of tomatoes, petit pois, cream and a touch of pesto.
Served with garlic bread.

Quorn "chicken fillets" cooked with English mustard, onions, sliced mushrooms and cream sauce. (GF)
