Review on Maxi's
The York branch of Maxi's mini-empire stands right by the city's outer ring road, close to the business park. Like its brothers in Leeds and Marley, it thrives on atmosphere and delivers authentic Chinese food to suit all appetites.
The menu is a real monster, covering hundreds of dishes, most from the Cantonese and Pekinese tradition, plus a few other regional ideas added for good measure. You could make a great lunch from the long list of dim sum, which spans everything from familiar steamed sui mai (pork and crab dumplings) and spare ribs in black bean sauce to more esoteric offerings like salt meat croquettes, pickled chicken's feet and deep-fried custard buns.
For a full meal, delve into the rest of the menu, which has a host of appetisers such as sesame prawn toasts and aromatic crispy lamb with pancakes, followed by Hong Kong-style roast duck, chicken with seasonal greens, lobster with ginger and spring onion and much more besides.
