Review on Rodean Restaurant
Rodean is a charming restaurant set in the lovely quintessential English village of Kenton on the A379 main coastal road from Exeter to Dawlish, Teignmouth and Torquay. Overlooking a pretty village green, the former butcher's shop was converted into a restaurant in 1983, consisting of a small bar lounge, two cosy traditional dining rooms with beams and dark wood panelling and artwork decorating the walls. Renowned for its excellent food and welcoming service, it is run by a husband and wife team, award-winning chef Matthew Tilt and his wife Elizabeth.
Menus change regularly and the kitchen takes advantage of the abundance of first-class produce available locally from trusted suppliers. To begin you might choose seared Lyme Bay scallops placed on a cauliflower and horseradish puree with lightly curried cauliflower tempura or loin of local venison and English asparagus served with cranberry sauce. Main courses offer day boat caught darne of hake and Cornish mussels served on saffron scented smoked shiitake mushrooms and spinach fricassee or rump of West country lamb with chilli black pudding carved onto grain mustard pommes puree creamed leaks and Denhay Farm streaky bacon. There are indulgent desserts to finish in the shape of a chocolate trilogy, dark chocolate mousse warm chocolate brownie and homemade brownie ice cream or a baked local rhubarb cheesecake finished with a rhubarb gel and rhubarb ice cream.
