Review on The Bull at Broughton
Surrounded by beautiful Lancashire countryside, The Bull at Broughton nestles in the historic rural village of Broughton, just four miles from the city of Preston. Established as one of Yorkshire's landmark pubs and originally part of The Northcote Group it was sold in 2018 to Brunning & Price.
The interiors of the stone built pub have undergone a contemporary makeover, whilst retaining the traditional flagstoned flooring, low beamed ceiling and exposed brick walls. It's a cosy venue with rustic chunky mismatched furniture, blazing log fires in winter as well an outdoor area for dining al fresco when the sun shines.
Local cuisine is top of the agenda sourced from trusted artisan producers and suppliers, showcasing seasonal dishes. Opt for a starter of Gloucester Old Spot pork croquettes, Tomlinson's rhubarb chutney and cracking or Shetland Isle mussels, Yorkshire chorizo, garlic, white wine and coriander. For a main course there's a popular mutton Lancashire hotpot, Gazegill Farm organic mutton, braised onions, potatoes and pickled red cabbage or fish lovers might prefer fish & chips, battered deep fried line caught haddock, marrowfat peas, real chips cooked in dripping and tartare sauce. There are some lovely traditional desserts on the menu including English pancakes with your choice of fillings or baked Alaska, meringue, ice cream and seasonal fruits.
Accompanying the menu is a well conceived wine list from all the premier growing regions offering plenty of choice by the glass.
