Review on Menu Gordon Jones
Situated on the corner of the busy A367 on the outskirts of Bath, Menu Gordon Jones is a multi-award winning restaurant and the Readers restaurant of the year for the South West by the Waitrose Good Food Guide 2015. Seating just twenty diners, this diminutive restaurant has a modern design in muted tones, overlooked by the open kitchen.
Gordon Jones has an impressive CV which includes working for two Michelin-starred chefs, Martin Wishart in Edinburgh and Martin Blunos at The County Hotel, before making his name at the Royal Crescent Hotel in Bath and deciding to go it alone. Demonstrating a high level of skill, versatility and creativity, his cooking style has certainly got the hearts of foodies and critics racing.
Gordon offers a surprise tasting menu consisting of five courses for lunch and six courses for dinner. Menus changes daily depending on supplies, as the kitchen is serious about procuring top-notch ingredients from trusted local producers, as listed on their website. Artistically displayed dishes that could appear on the carte include wild mushroom mousse, smoked milk, onion Madeline; Severn & Wye smoked eel, salted purple potatoes, maple syrup, cucumber & radish; Tandoori cod tongues, squid coleslaw, avocado yoghurt, smoked paprika taco; glazed rose veal cheek, truffle sticky rice, candied citrus, dried chervil roots; "Kale, cucumber, blackberries" blackberry sorbet, marinated cucumber, kale water, dill and finishing with salted dark chocolate and honey tart, Chicory ice cream, and Marmalade puree.
Everything is made in house, service is both friendly and precise, while the wine list showcases both organic and biodynamic labels.
