Review on The Black Horse
Kirkby Fleetham a rural village in the Hambleton district of North Yorkshire is home to the charming stone-built traditional Black Horse Inn. The interiors have been sympathetically updated in an ivory palette with a cosy welcoming fire and a low beamed ceiling. It still operates as a local watering hole, but the food is a big draw here and the kitchen has been awarded a prestigious AA rosette for its efforts.
Making excellent use of the abundance of first-class ingredients on its doorstep, guests could opt for a starter of chicken liver parfait, paired with grape chutney or maybe the Whitby crab soup, crab and sesame seed toast. Main courses offer choices in the shape of loin of Black Mountain venison, venison suet pudding, roasted garlic, onion tart and pot roasted potato or from the sea, there's poached North Sea salmon squid ink risotto and rice crisp. Tempting desserts close the show with a moreish sticky toffee pudding, toffee sauce and vanilla ice cream or chocolate fondant, cherries, honeycomb and vanilla ice cream.
The Black Inn has a fine wine list with options available by the glass and the ambience is relaxed and very friendly. There are seven stylish bedrooms available should you wish to extend your stay and explore the area further.
