Review on Turl Street Kitchen
Turl Street Kitchen is located on historic Turl Street, home to three of Oxford's historic colleges, Exeter, Jesus and Lincoln, operating as a social enterprise, all profits that are generated from the business go to support the Oxford Hub, the national student volunteering network. Set over two floors, the canteen style restaurant is a relaxed and informal affair, with mismatched wooden tables and chairs and a lounge area upstairs with comfy sofas.
The kitchen serves affordable food with an emphasis on ingredients soured from local and sustainable producers for its daily changing menu. Open all day for breakfast, lunch and diner, with tea, coffee and drinks available throughout the day, together with cakes in the afternoon. Typically on offer could be mushroom soup and freshly baked bread and butter, followed by a main course of free-range chicken, braised in cider, bacon, apples and mash or Cornish plaice, new potatoes, capers, parsley and cider butter sauce. When it comes to desserts there's lemon posset paired with shortbread or chocolate brownie, chocolate sauce and clotted cream.
There's a concise wine list from independent merchants to complement the food together with locally brewed beers.
