Review on Augustine Kitchen
Augustine Kitchen is a likeable neighbourhood restaurant located south of the river on the busy Battersea Bridge Road. Chef Patron is Franck Raymond, who previously worked for ten years as Head Chef of Mon Plaisir, London's longest serving French restaurant in Covent Garden. Prior to this he achieved two Michelin stars at Le Marignac in Geneva, before setting up his own restaurant Le Cheval Blanc in Evian and then went on to work alongside Marco Pierre White at the Oak Room and Titanic, followed by Kensington Place where he was Head Pastry Chef. Named after Raymond's grandmother Augustine, it has a small bar at the front of the restaurant, with the main dining area to the rear. The minimalist décor has pale walls adorned with mirrors and artwork and bare wood tables are set against tall dark leather chairs.
Serving traditional French dishes alongside French-style tapas there's a focus on produce from the Evian region, where Raymond was born. A popular starting point is the creamy lobster soup, XO Armagnac and croutons followed by a main course of slow cooked pork shank, butterbeans and Madeira jus or for fish fans there's roast cod, crushed potato, quinoa, orange and rosemary sauce. Desserts are delicious affairs witness coconut floating island, lime and vanilla custard or maybe choose the dark chocolate mousse with caramel sauce.
French varietals dominate on the concise wine list and there are offerings available by the bottle, carafe and glass.
