Review on Sichuan-Folk Chinese Restaurant
Situated on Hanbury Street, just off Brick Lane famous for its many curry houses is the Sichuan-Folk Chinese restaurant, liked by many respected food critics. This small restaurant with walls decorated with black and white calligraphy artworks is the real deal, serving authentic Sichuan dishes from the south-west province of China. Dark wooden tables are set closely together and there's trad tassled silk lamps in a cosy atmosphere.
Typical offerings on the menu include dishes in the shape of pig's trotters with pickled chilli; spicy sliced pork ear; tripe salad or beef slice in chilli oil. On the fish front there's steamed seabass with ginger and spring onion or fried squid in salt and pepper. Sichuan-Folk Chinese Restaurant also has a vegetarian menu and children are made welcome.
