Review on Kurobuta Chelsea
Originally opened opposite Carlyle Square on the King's Road in fashionable Chelsea, Kurobuta started as a 'pop-up' restaurant while its permanent site in Marble Arch was being renovated, but such was its popularity it has now moved to bigger and permanent premises on Fulham Road. Originally the brainchild of Australian chef Scott Hallsworth, a former Head chef of Nobu in Melbourne for a number of years, he sold the restaurant in 2017.
Designed to be a modern take on the Izakaya, a Japanese pub that serves food to accompany the drinks, the menu is divided into Snacks, Cold-Raw-Salad, Robata BBQ, Japanese Junk Food, Something Crunchy, Significant Others and Sushi and is designed for sharing. Typical offerings on the carte include Yellowtail Sashimi with Kizami Wasabi Salsa and Yuzu-Soy; Tea Smoked Lamb with Smokey Nasu and Spicy Korean Miso; BBQ Kurobuta Pork Ribs with Honey-Soy-Ginger Glaze; Squid Kara-Age with Jalapeno Dipping Sauce and Crispy Skin Duck Confit, Watermelon, Daikon Pickle and Spicy Peanut Soy.
Service is knowledgeable and enthusiastic by the young staff and there's New World wines, saké based cocktails, together with Kirin Frozen Head beer to accompany the dishes.
