Review on The Colony Grill Room at The Beaumont Hotel
The Beaumont is a centrally located hotel situated in the heart of Mayfair overlooking Brown Hart Gardens and a short walk from Oxford Street. Architects ReardonSmith and Grosvenor, together with Richmond Design Hospitality have transformed the former car garage into a sumptuous five-star boutique hotel with modern and Art Deco features. It also includes British Turner prize winner Antony Gormley’s sculpture, a modular piece of stainless steel and fumed oak on the façade of the hotel, which conceals a luxurious suite within the body of the structure.
The hotel's showplace restaurant, The Colony Grill Room pays homage to the New York and London Grill Rooms of yesteryear, together with an American style bar called Jimmy's, forming a central hub on the ground floor. The elegant dark wood panelled restaurant is set on two levels featuring an ornamental stained glass roof light, oxblood red leather banquettes and 1930's bentwood and studded chairs, with deco-style murals by American illustrator John Mattos adorning the walls.
Executive chef Ben Boeynaems leads the kitchen team, an all-day venue that runs through from breakfast, lunch and dinner, including weekend brunch. Options worth considering are chicken liver parfait or clam chowder with smoked haddock amongst the starters. Main courses take in brisket and calf’s tongue or collar of bacon with bubble and squeak or from the sea there's grilled Dover sole, with Béarnaise. Close the show with bananas foster, bananas in caramel sauce served with vanilla ice cream or a pistachio and cherry baked Alaska.
Impeccable service and an excellent wine list, with plenty of options available by the glass ensures a first-class dining experience at The Colony Grill Room.
