Review on Portland Restaurant
Located in a former clothing showroom, the Portland Restaurant opened its doors on the 12 January, 2015 on Great Portland Street, close to the BBC. It is the inspiration of a well regarded team, Will Lander, co-owner of London's stalwart, The Quality Chop House, together with Daniel Morganthau, formerly of 10 Greek Street. The light and airy restaurant has a minimalist design overlooked by the open kitchen, walls are adorned with pictures and filament light fittings dangle from the ceiling.
The menu is based on the very best of daily market supplies showcasing inventive dishes with a focus on simple, yet robust flavours. Kick off with charred brassicas, smoked egg emulsion, soy and Perigord truffle or maybe Portland smoked trout and cultured cream. Follow on with Wild bass, baked Roscoff onion and cider or their very popular game pithivier, black truffle and game sauce for two people. When it comes to desserts enjoy a bitter chocolate tart or rice pudding with vanilla and nutmeg.
There's a well thought out wine list that changes monthly and Portland's reserve list of special wines are all available by the glass. The restaurant was awarded a prestigious Michelin star in the 2016 edition of the Guide, alongside three AA Rosettes.
