Review on Kitty Fisher's
Taking its name from the infamous 17th-century courtesan, Kitty Fisher's opened in December 2014 in the heart of Mayfair, located on historic Shepherd Market. Once a Victorian bakery, the restaurant is set on two levels with a bar at street level and the main dining room situated in the basement with a glass-fronted kitchen. The atmospheric candlelit dining room is an intimate affair with a low ceiling and dark red velvet banquette seating set against dark wood tables.
The kitchen is the domain of George Barson who joined the restaurant in March 2017 from his position of senior sous and development chef at Jamie Oliver's Fifteen. He presents a concise menu using a wood-fired grill designed by Mark Parr of The London Log Co. Typical dishes that appear are succulent lamb cutlets, anchovy, mint and parsley or from the sea choose Cornish crab, barbecued cucumber, dill and seaweed. Follow on with duck, rhubarb, black cabbage and chervil root or maybe monkfish, blood orange, fennel and monks beard. As a finale, consider chocolate mousse, burnt orange, crème fraiche and hazelnuts or rhubarb, yoghurt and almond cafe.
Service is welcoming and professional, the wine list offers good value for the area and there's also a bespoke cocktail menu.
