Occupying a corner site overlooking the square in the prosperous market town of Beaminster in West Dorset, Brassica is a thriving neighbourhood restaurant that is wowing locals and tourists alike. The impressive double act behind this venture is chef Cass Titcombe, who plied his trade at critically acclaimed restaurants such as Daphne's, The Collection and Pasha before co-founding Canteen and his partner Louise Chidgey, who is a leading interior designer having worked for clients including The Conran Shop, Selfridge's, Nicole Farhi Home and Wolff Olins.

Louise has created a strikingly designed contemporary venue within this lovely old building, one of the oldest in Dorset. Double fronted windows flood the restaurant with natural light and the comfy banquette seating running along the length of two walls is set with colourful throw cushions. Walls are adorned with vibrant canvases and a cosy wood burning stove set in an exposed brick fireplace complete with a stack of logs, ensures that the place is not only relaxed and welcoming, but very cosy in winter.

There's no shortage of fresh produce in Dorset and the kitchen's seasonal modern European menu makes the most of it, showcasing a concise regularly changing menu. So expect a salad of pheasant breast, pickled red onion, raisins and chestnuts or from the sea there's crab, rocket and tomato salad with pangrattato. Main courses embrace Hereford beef, tagliata with rocket, black garlic and fries served for two, or there's grilled skate with capers and butter. The choice of desserts could run to gingerbread with rhubarb or chocolate mousse cake with crème fraîche.

The exceptionally well-curated wine list has been chosen by Louise's father Graham Chidgey, who ran Layton's Fine Wines for 30 years.
