Review on Jar Kitchen
First time restaurateurs Lucy Brown and Jenny Quintero have opened a charming restaurant called Jar Kitchen, located towards the High Holborn end of Drury Lane. Set over two floors, it's a casual, easy-going place that runs from breakfast, through to lunch and dinner. A rustic décor sets the mood with reclaimed hardwood floors, wooden chairs and tables simply laid with jars of flowers, together with jars featuring as both dangling light fixtures and water glasses.
The kitchen operates on a farm-to-fork basis with impeccable ingredients sourced from local independent suppliers. Kick off with ox cheek and cheddar croquettes served with aioli or maybe pan seared sea bass, avocado and fennel. Main courses showcase Walter Rose pork belly, smoked grilled cabbage, turnips and hazelnut crumble or from the sea, seared monkfish, grilled baby artichoke, toasted spelt, shallots and white wine sauce. To finish there are desserts in the shape of apple and pear crumble with buttermilk ice cream or mini doughnuts, cinnamon sugar and vanilla cream.
There's a concise wine list to accompany the food with several options available by the glass, together with craft beers. Front of house provided by Lucy and Jenny injects both warmth and friendliness into proceedings.
