Review on CRAFT London

CRAFT London located on the Greenwich Peninsula, a stone's throw from the O2 and North Greenwich tube station is the much anticipated new project from talented chef Steve Parle and his partner Tom Dixon of the esteemed Design Research Studio. Cookery writer and author Parle is a skilled chef having climbed the culinary ladder at restaurants such as the River Café, Moro and Petersham Nurseries and also operated Dock Kitchen on Ladbrooke Grove and Rotorino in Dalston before their closure.

The stunning curved glass fronted building is set over three levels with a ground floor café, a first floor restaurant and a rooftop cocktail bar with 360 degree views over the Thames and Canary Wharf. Decked out in bright colours the contemporary interior utilises Scottish tweed, broken limestone, cork, polished plaster and pewter, as well as London designed furniture and lighting. Set within a 45-acre garden development created by Alys Fowler, guests can enjoy an outdoor terrace, orchard and meadow. The garden is also home to the herb and vegetable boxes and a smoke house.

The kitchen is passionate about British produce with a traceable provenance and takes pride in sourcing the finest, freshest British ingredients for their dishes from small artisan suppliers. Menus change with the season, but features dishes in the shape of wild pigeon pastry and pickled walnuts or if you really want to push the boat out there's Exmoor sturgeon caviar, artichoke crisps and cultured cream. Main courses make a good showing with Galloway beef sirloin, marrowbone bread sauce and lovage liquor or from the sea there's wood grilled scallops, anchovy fritter and cauliflower. To finish there's desserts such as buttermilk and carrageen pudding rhubarb and elderflower ice or British and Irish cheeses from the trolley.

To complement the food, CRAFT London has a carefully curated wine list of around 90 bins courtesy of Ruth Spivey, chosen from small independent wine growers and seasonal cocktails put together by Adam Wyatt-Jones.
