Review on Orient London
Occupying the former premises of Jade Garden in the heart of Soho, Orient London opened in June 2015. It is the brainchild of chef and restaurateur Patrick Cheung, who already owns the award winning fusion restaurant Aqua Eight in Ipswich and the Mizu Noodle Bars in Suffolk and Essex. Spread over two floors, it has been totally refurbished with bespoke furniture creating an elegant and relaxed environment. Orient also has a variety of private dining rooms and bar with karaoke facilities.
The kitchen creates dishes that focus on authentic Cantonese and Szechuan cuisine from the northern regions of China, specialising in seafood and freshly made-in-house dim sum. Choosing from the main menu you could opt for a starter of sliced pig's trotter or maybe fried soft shelled crab with fresh salad. Follow on with steamed minced pork with salty fish and water chestnuts or stir-fried sliced cuttlefish and scallops with celery. Amongst the dim sum options there's delicious choices like crystal king prawn dumplings with black truffle and XO sauce or crispy duck tempura rolls. When it comes to desserts enjoy an osmanthus jelly with wolf berry or mango cheesecake.
There's a thoughtfully compiled wine list to complement the food, as well as an extensive drinks menu offering a wide range of beer, spirits and cocktails.
