Review on Tudor Farmhouse Hotel & Restaurant
Standing amid 14 acres of ancient grassland, the Tudor Farmhouse is a beautiful countryside retreat in an area of outstanding natural beauty in the historic village of Clearwell in the Royal Forest of Dean. A former farmhouse dating back to the 13th century, the building has been lovingly restored by its current owners whilst retaining many of the original features, such as the timber frames, exposed stonework, wall panelling and delightful inglenook fireplaces. Awarded Cotswold Life Hotel Restaurant of the Year 2013, it's a well regarded dining destination and has been awarded two prestigious AA rosettes.
The kitchen under the helm of Rob Cox turns out highly impressive modern food, with vegetables grown in their own kitchen garden and other produce meticulously sourced from within a 20-mile radius of the hotel. Open your account with Fallow deer tartare, beetroot, hazelnut, juniper and horseradish cream or maybe roasted scallops, celeriac and truffle purée, apple. When it comes to main courses there's Huntsham Farm middle white pork, roasted and braised, caramelised apple purée, roasted parsnips and pickled apples or a fish choice of roasted cod, mushroom, lemon and radish. As a finale consider clotted cream pannacotta, rhubarb, honeycomb and coriander or you might prefer the artisan cheeses served with savoury biscuits, celery and grapes.
Tudor Farm has an idyllic garden to while away the hours on sunny days and there's twenty inviting bedrooms should you wish to extend your stay and enjoy the surrounding countryside.
