Review on Blacklock
Blacklock is located on Great Windmill Street, just off Shaftesbury Avenue in the heart of Soho. It's the brain-child of ex Hawksmoor employee Gordon Ker, a subterranean venue, once an illegal strip club, it takes its name from a 19th century Tennessee foundry. An industrial pared back space with exposed whitewashed brickwork and subdued lighting, overlooked by the bustling open kitchen. Retro-80's music and muted colours set the mood, laid out with simple bench tables and a large central communal table.
The kitchen is a carnivores delight as the focus is on charcoal-grilled chops, carefully sourced from respected suppliers, Philip Warren butchers in Cornwall. There are pre-chop bites in the shape of Cheese and Pickle, Dripping Ham or Egg and Anchovy. Moving on there's skinny chops like beef short rib or lamb T-bone, or from the big chop menu choose beef porterhouse or maybe Barnsley lamb chop. For a sweet-toothed finale there's cheesecake.
White and red wine are available on tap, or you could choose a cocktail such as Grandmas' spiked lemonade from the trolley, at just five pounds
