Review on Ristorante Frescobaldi
Ristorante Frescobaldi is an Italian fine dining restaurant set in affluent Mayfair on New Burlington Place, just off the hustle and bustle of Regent Street. It's a joint venture between the prestigious Frescobaldi family, Italy's most respected wine dynasty who have been making Tuscan wines since 1308 in the nine estates in the hills around Florence and Sienna, together with the Good Food Society, Levent Buyukugur, founder of the Istanbul Doors restaurant group with over 40 restaurants in Turkey, the UK, Russia and Azerbaijan.
The swish high ceilinged dining room is a light and airy space featuring a large central column housing wine. Oak panelling is inscribed with the names of the Frescobaldi vintages, and there's beautiful ceramic tiling decorated with frescos of Italian renaissance figures, including a ten-foot Dante reading a book. During summer months guests can take advantage of al fresco dining on their sunny terrace.
Executive Chef Francesco Migliorin's regularly changing menu showcases Tuscan dishes with influences from Northern Italy and the Southern regions such as Puglia. Fresh bread is made-in-house from the Laudemio olive oil produced by the Frescobaldi estates in Tuscany, together with brown, white, rosemary and a different flavour focaccia every day, based on a traditional Puglian recipe.
Typically you might open your account with tartare di gamberi rossi con mela verde, red prawn tartar with green apple or paccheri with rabbit ragù, olives and thyme. Main courses usher in Sogliola alla mugnaia, Dover sole with lemon and butter sauce or for meat fans there's veal chop with a saffron rice cake and bone marrow with a herb crust. As a finale enjoy mille-feuille with raspberries or caramelised pear with meringue and mascarpone ice cream.
As you would expect there's a first-class wine list with a focus on wines produced by Marchesi dei Frescobaldi, and diners also have the opportunity of choosing the wine flight offering three very different wines.
