Review on Rabbit

Having scored a hit with The Shed in Notting Hill, the Gladstone brothers have opened a second restaurant, this time on trendy King's Road in affluent Chelsea. The three brothers have proved to be a winning combination, Oliver is the chef having climbed the culinary ladder at restaurants such as the Oxo Tower, Launceston Place, Just St James and River Cottage. Richard looks after front of house have previously worked at Brawn and Bunga Bunga, while Gregory runs the farm that supplies their hand-reared meat.

Like it's older sibling the L-shaped room has a rustic décor, informal stripped-wood tables and panelling are made from oaks they salvaged when they blew down in a storm. The bonnet of a John Deere tractor can be found suspended from the ceiling holding spirit bottles for cocktails, and other rural trappings and pictures line the walls and shelves. The atmosphere is cosy and lively, overlooked by the hustle and bustle of the open kitchen.

Menus change daily to reflect the best market ingredients supplied from their farm and foraged seasonal produce, offering a tempting selection of small plates. A good way to start is to choose their daily loosener, fruit salad, Adnams gin, orange and rhubarb, lemon and soda while you peruse the menu, followed by a mouthful of hot smoked rabbit loin, lemon and fennel. Then from the Slow Cooking section enjoy lamb chips, lemon, parsley and harissa before moving on to the Fast Cooking part with Rye bay scallop and three cornered garlic butter. Desserts are equally tempting affairs with an apple pie with caramel vanilla ice cream or the Magnum Vienetta parfait.

Wine is supplied from their own boutique vineyard which has produced a range of award winning wines, beer comes from Sussex-based Hepworth Breweries & Co and there's tasty cocktails as well.
