Review on The Anchor
The Anchor overlooks a small green in the picturesque village of Tilsworth in Bedfordshire, a short drive from Dunstable. In February 2016 new owners took up the reins of this popular family pub, MasterChef: The Professionals 2011 runner-up Steve Barringer and his partner Amy, who looks after front of house. The building dates back to 1878, the only pub in the Saxon village and it has a large garden for al fresco dining during summer months, with the advantage of an adventure playground for younger visitors.
Steve makes admiral use of the local larder for his menu of traditional pub dishes with a modern influence. Apart from a lunchtime and evening menu, and tasty bar snacks, guests also have the choice of a delicious tasting menu. Typical dishes on the carte included starters such as smoked salmon Scotch egg, red chicory, beetroot ketchup and pickled beetroot or crispy pork fritter, raw apple, celeriac slaw and celeriac cream. When it comes to main courses there's rump of lamb shepherd's pie, roasted cauliflower, cauliflower puree and mint dressing or pan-fried cod, hot tartar sauce, broccoli puree, beer-battered scraps and chips. Desserts conclude proceedings with a classy flourish, witness warm chocolate cake, banana parfait and caramel sauce or coconut pannacotta, poached pineapple, passionfruit jelly and meringue.
Attentive and warm service, a concise wine list and tasty food is drawing in the crowds from far and beyond the village.
