Review on Lussmanns
In 2016 Lussmanns opened its fourth branch in the historical market town of Hitchen, with sister restaurants located in the Herefordshire towns of St Albans, Hertford and Harpenden. Formerly occupied by Strada, it's set in a partially Grade II listed building, just off Market Place. The interiors have undergone a stylish refurbishment and now feature a bar where guests can linger with an aperitif before dining or maybe a coffee afterwards.
The kitchen draws in the best of the local larder, and has won awards for its solid commitment to sourcing ethical and sustainable products for their menu. Among the starters look for Sussex free-range pork rillette cornichon and toast or fish fans might opt for the crab and toast Devonshire white crab meat and coriander salad. When it comes to main courses there's much to enjoy whether it's the House fishcake baby spinach, parsnip and beurre blanc or something from the grill such as free-range duck leg breast summer green and lovage dressing. To finish there's chocolate cheesecake hazelnut and caramel brittle or you might prefer the selection of British artisan farmhouse cheeses served with Nordic crispbread and house chutney.
Service is relaxed and friendly, and there's a carefully compiled wine list, British craft beers, English organic juices and Cornish tea to complement the dishes.
