Review on Chicama
Opened by the same team behind the successful Pachamama in Marylebone, their latest venture called Chicama is located in the heart of Chelsea on King's Road. Decked out in muted colours with bar seating overlooking the open kitchen, it's a light and airy space that leads out onto a delightful al fresco dining terrace. For a special dining experience there's also a 16-cover chef's table situated in the kitchen.
Like it's older sibling the restaurant serves bold, colourful Peruvian dishes but the menu at Chicama is dedicated to seafood, with fish delivered daily from Cornwall. Donning the whites in the kitchen is Erred Nathaniel, who has plied his trade in some of London's top restaurants including Launceston Place, Viajante, Hélène Darroze at The Connaught and 28:50, as well as Maido in Peru listed 44th in San Pellegrino's’ Top 50 restaurants in the world.
The dishes are designed for sharing featuring small plates such as tuna poke, ajà panca Tiger’s Milk, smoked egg and crispy potato or blackened octopus, confit potato, smoked cheese and cauliflower. There's also a selection of grilled fish reflecting the very best of the days catch, served with lobster oil, chimichurri or fermented sweet potato sauce and black rice. For dessert order the sweet potato tart, malt and bourbon cream or banana and Yuzu ice cream, torched meringue, banana and coconut.
To accompany the food there's a concise wine list together with Peruvian-inspired cocktails, Japanese whiskey, pisco, mezcal and sake available by the glass.
