Review on Ostuni Queens Park
Set in a converted Victorian workshop, just off Salusbury Road on a quiet no-through road in leafy Queens Park, Ostuni bills itself as London's first Italian restaurant and bar dedicated to the regional cuisine of Puglia. Easily spotted by the pots of greenery surrounding their large canopied terrace, inside the restaurant is light and airy, with authentic stone tiles from Locorotondo adorning the walls, bar and floor, typical of the Trulli of Puglia. The rustic décor has unique light fittings made from grain sieves and there's a charming distressed sideboard displaying local cheeses.
The kitchen sends out food that is simple, seasonal and flavoursome, allowing the quality of the natural ingredients to shine through. Typical offerings on the carte include polpette, beef meatballs in tomato sauce or maybe order the baccala al forno, crispy baked salt cod and Aquaviva's red onion. Follow on with a pasta dish of calamarata seafood with mussels, squid, prawn and cuttlefish or meat fans might fancy the agnello al fornello, roast lamb rump with lentils, wild garlic and chicory. Round things off with traditional desserts in the shape of tiramisu with amaretto or pasticciotto all'amarena, crema al liquore di strega, cherry and frangipane pastry with strega liqueur custard.
Accompanying the menu is an Italian wine list with a focus on wines from the the Puglia region.
