Review on The Ivy Clifton Brasserie

The Ivy Clifton Brasserie is Richard Caring's of Caprice Holdings first venture outside London to be added to his portfolio of restaurants. Alongside his Ivy Cafe brand in Marylebone, Wimbledon and St John's Wood, he has also established his Grills and Brasserie restaurants in Kensington and Chelsea.

Set in the magnificent Clifton and Hotwells Conservation Area, occupying an impressive Georgian building once home to Nat West Bank, it's located on the corner of Caledonia Place and The Mall, overlooking The Mall Gardens. Like it's siblings The Ivy Clifton Brasserie has stunning interiors designed by the critically acclaimed Martin Brudnizki Design Studio, complimenting the heritage of the building. The high ceiling room has fabulous brass circular chandeliers, antique mirrors and interesting prints depicting Bristol's historic past adorning the walls. Flooring features a navy, tan and cream diamond pattern to complement the dark wood period furniture, mustard banquettes and navy chairs.

Executive Chef Sean Burbidge and Head Chef Dominik Malecki have created an all day menu that offers flexibility as it's hallmark. Typical offerings on the a la carte include chicken liver parfait, caramelised hazelnut, pear and stem ginger or from the sea there's raw yellowfin tuna with spiced avocado, lime crème fraîche and coriander shoots. There's an extensive selection for main courses such as slow roasted lamb shoulder with soft Parmesan polenta, roasted peppers, olives and rosemary sauce or grilled whole lobster, parsley and garlic butter accompanied by thick cut chip. For a sweet-toothed finale enjoy a warm flourless chocolate cake, chocolate sauce raspberries and crème fraîche or maybe dark treacle tart served with milk ice cream and Jersey pouring cream.

Knowledgeably, first-rate service accompanies impeccable dishes and an extensive wine list of astutely chosen bottles from across the globe, together with a well-crafted cocktail menu.
