Review on The Carew Arms
After an extensive refurbishment, The Carew Arms, formerly known as The Ring O'Bells situated in the tiny Cornish village of Antony, just three miles west of Torpoint, re-opened in July 2016. The duo behind this venture is Tremayne Carew Pole, publisher of A Hedonists Guide To... and Great British menu regional winner and chef/patron of Cotswold's acclaimed Kingham Plough, Emily Watkins. It has been transformed into a light and airy space that incorporates a pub, an upstairs private dining area seating 20, a general store, as well as a daytime cafe.
Head chef is Iain Hobbs, who together with Emily has created an affordable menu that showcases the very best of the local larder. Expect the likes of potted smoked mackerel pâté, pickled cucumber and sourdough toast or Primrose Herd pressed pork terrine with piccalilli. When it comes to main courses you might opt for the classic Carew Arms fish pie and buttered kale or the rib eye steak with crunchy chips and house butter. Completing the picture are desserts such as dark chocolate brownie with clotted cream or a buttermilk panna cotta, honeycomb, strawberries and elderflower.
Service is friendly, there's a relaxed ambience and a fairly priced wine list adds to an accomplished dining experience.
