Review on Àclèaf at Boringdon Hall
Àclèaf is the signature restaurant in Boringdon Hall, a stunning Grade I listed Elizabethan Manor House Hotel that can trace its history back to the Doomsday Book. Idyllically situated on the edge of Dartmoor in the parish of Colebrook, just two miles north of Plympton, and a short drive from the historic city of Plymouth. The restaurant overlooks The Great Hall and offers a romantic and intimate venue with its cosy nooks in a setting of traditional beams and intricate carved furniture.
Executive chef is Scott Paton, who has an excellent pedigree having recently been awarded three AA rosettes during his tenure as Head Chef at the Horn of Plenty in Gulsworthy, Devon. Menus follow the seasons with ingredients sourced locally from trusted suppliers, appearing as well executed and artistically displayed dishes.
Open your account with smoked pork belly, white bean cassoulet, Parliament sauce and garlic sausage or Brixham crab salad with curried emulsion, mango and cardamom. Equally inventive main courses follow with Hurdon Farm pork collar, Crown Prince pumpkin, prunes and Armagnac or from the sea there's pan seared turbot, caramelised cauliflower, capers and raisins. Dulcey chocolate tart with salted peanut and sour cherry is a fitting finish or there's a very nice selection of artisan cheeses.
Boringdon Hall has 40 sumptuous rooms should you wish to extend your stay and explore all that this lovely area has to offer.
