Review on Duke Restaurant

The Duke Restaurant is tucked away on Calle Soler, distinguished by its royal blue canopy it can be found in the thriving night time spot of Santa Catalina, just to the west of the iconic Es Baluard museum. Opened in 2009 by two surfer friends, chef Ronny Portulidis and Juanjo Campos, the name of the restaurant is a tribute to the the great Hawaiian surfer Duke Paoa Kahanamoku, who won gold and silver medals at the 1912, 1920 and 1924 Olympic Games.

Inside you could imagine you were in a beach side shack on Bondi Beach in Australia with benches made from driftwood and walls decorated with surfboards and lots of surfing pictures. It's a cool buzzy place with a laid-back vibe that gets very busy, so it's advisable to book in advance.

Co-owner Ronnie is in the kitchen having learned his craft in several Michelin restaurants, and he presents a Pan-Asian menu based on recipes that reflects his travels around the globe. Applying a healthy approach to their cooking, dishes are prepared without butter, cream and harmful artificial ingredients.

Why not start your journey in Greece with a selection of classic Greek tapas consisting of four grilled lamb kebabs, warm greek pita bread, chickpea hummus, garlic and lemon spiced tzaziki, real feta and black kalamata olives. If Mexico is more to your preference opt for their hot Mexican beef and smoked chipotle tacos served with hand cut vegetable chips and the best guacamole outside of Mexico! Elsewhere there's much to enjoy in the shape of organic wok cooked chicken with fresh sauté vegetables and steamed basmati rice, or choices of curries, as well as meat dishes like grilled Brazilian rump steak with hand cut fries, sauté garlic mushrooms and boiled kale leaves. For the sweet-toothed there's a white chocolate tiramisú with green tea and wasabi to finish.

The Duke Restaurant has a well considered Spanish wine list which includes local wines from Mallorca.
