Review on L'Ospite
Taking its name from the Italian word meaning guest, L'Ospite is an authentic Italian fine dining restaurant set on the edge of Palma's La Lonja district, opposite the Santa Creu church. Owned by Belgian Gert Hofman a multilinguist who admirably manages front of house and Italian chef Alessandro Di Feo, they opened their very popular restaurant in July 2014. It has a cosy interior with candlelit tables simply laid, together with a few tables on the front pavement terrace for al fresco dining when the weather is warm.
Alessandro Di Feo is passionate about his cooking and sources fresh local ingredients for his Mediterranean menu, which includes recipes handed down from his grandmother. Starters bring on a classic buffalo mozzarella roasted inside a beef tomato with pesto and peppers, followed by sea bream with scallops, almonds and hazelnuts or their signature succulent tagliatelle ragu consisting of five different types of meat precooked for five hours. To finish enjoy mascarpone cream with honey, toasted almonds and seasonal fruit presented in a jar.
There's a carefully compiled wine list of Italian and a few Mallorcan wines to complement the food.
