Review on Tirso Tapas
Tirso Tapas was launched in January 2015 in the heart of Palma on the corner of Plaça del Mercat and Carrer Unio, just steps from Avenue de Jaume lll and its excusive array of upmarket shops. Eat al fresco, or inside with its modern industrial décor featuring exposed piping and an open kitchen, where you can watch the chefs prepare the dishes. The duo behind this enterprising venue is Rafel Campins and talented chef Carlos Landeras, who has earned his culinary spurs in highly regarded restaurants like The Greenhouse in Mayfair, as well as working alongside Michelin-starred chefs such as Marc Fosh.
The kitchen has its roots in Spanish cuisine with international influences showcasing inventive tapas style dishes made from the very best locally sourced produce. A weekly changing three course set menu with a glass of wine offers exceptionally good value and is proving very popular. Soup de champignon is a good starting point, followed by pork and lamb skewers served with cous cous, and finishing with a dessert of brownie and ice cream. Other options worth considering are the sardines with couscous and crab with kimchi or maybe squid tempura with aioli. For those with a meat preference there's suckling pig or chicken with a gorgonzola sauce.
Service is friendly and there's a buzzy ambience, together with a sensibly priced Spanish and Mallorcan wine list.
