Review on Counter Culture
Counter Culture is set next door to Robert Gill's award winning The Dairy which he opened in 2013, followed by The Manor in 2015 also in Clapham, and Bethnal Green's Paradise Garage in 2015. Located in the premises that formerly housed The Delicatessen, this diminutive enterprise seats just fifteen, with six prized bar stools set around the pass so you watch the chefs in action. There's additional seating in the form of leather banquette seating and large windows looking out onto the common.
The name of the game is tapas, designed for sharing using seasonal produce from trusted suppliers with a focus on preserved, pickled and fermented flavours. On the regularly changing menu you might see sour potato flat bread served with nduja, and cultured cream or Black Iberico tomatoes, sardine and ricotta. For a sweet finale there's caramelised white choc and rhubarb or you might prefer the Beenleigh Blue, oat crackers and honeycomb.
To accompany the dishes there's a well-sourced wine list, cocktails or Counter Culture operate a BYOB with a corkage charge.
