Review on Radici
Francesco Mazzei Chef patron of Sartoria in swish Mayfair has opened an authentic Italian trattoria called Radici, set just off Upper Street on the former site of Almeida in the heart of Islington. Radici is the Italian name for roots and Francesco is showcasing dishes inspired from his heritage, as well as from other southern Italian areas such as Campania, Basilicata, Puglia, Sicily, and Sardinia. The large square room has been designed by David d'Almada of Sagrada studios, creating a rustic and relaxed venue using natural colours, iconic Italian tuff stone and hints of blue in the tiled flooring, furniture and crockery.
Francesco has appointed his long time lieutenant Antonio Mazzone to lead the open-to view kitchen which will serve traditional Italian dishes, as well as pizzas from the wood-fired oven. The menu cruises its way through starters in the shape of taglierini, fagioli and pancetta or seafood fettuccine. Main courses carry on the regional theme with spicy chicken calabrese or roast king prawns salmoriglio. As for dessert, check out the marsala tiramisu or almond cake with mixed berries.
Italian varietals dominate the wine list and there is also a concise selection of cocktails available.
