Having scored a hit with their restaurant Primeur in Stoke Newington, David Gingell and Jeremie Cometto-Lingenheim followed it up in May 2017 with Westerns Laundry on Drayton Park Road, North London. Housed within a disused 1950's building, the name is a reference to a former inhabitant, and is located a short walk from the Emirates Stadium, home to the Arsenal Football Club.

Set on a tranquil cobbled courtyard lined with Himalayan Birch trees and benches that have been hand-crafted by Jeremie, it will be a splendid respite from the nearby Holloway Road. Floor-to-ceiling glass-panelled crittall doors lead into the restaurant where you will find counter bar seating, as well as communal tables and banquettes made from Shou Sugi Ban charred larch and plush electric blue velvet. Lit by incandescent strip lighting, two paintings from Sussex artist Kate Boxer take centre stage. One depicts a hungry lion saying 'I won't eat you' and the other of American novelist and playwright James Baldwin.

The chalkboard menu focuses on seafood small plates, changing daily to reflect the very best produce sourced from the day boats off Cornwall and Devon. Dishes are treated simply with respect to allow the quality of the natural ingredients to shine through. Expect the likes of home-salted sardines, seabass with seaweed tartare, and chargrilled mackerel with miso and chilli amongst the starters. For those who prefer meat there's beef with garlic butter and croutons, or pork loin with basil and capers. To finish expect sweet offerings such as a refreshing green apple sorbet or a traditional custard tart.

Like its sibling, Westerns Laundry has a fine wine list of over 200 references highlighting low intervention from renowned small producers across the globe.
