Review on Es Pinaret
Despite its remote rural location between Ses Salines and Colonia Sant Jordi, Es Pinaret pulls in the crowds with its reputation for fine Mediterranean cuisine with Asian and German influences. Husband and wife team Elvira and Peter Urbach used to own a restaurant in their native Germany, before relocating to this beautiful south eastern area of Mallorca. Peter mans the stoves, while Elvira adeptly runs front of house with personable charm.
The restaurant takes its name from the pine trees in the garden, where well-spaced tables are laid with crisp white linen, and decorated with candles, flowers and fresh lemons. Elvira is also a talented artist and guests can view and buy her paintings, displayed on easels around the garden.
Peter's food is based on first-class locally sourced produce which Elvira presents on a blackboard menu to each table, when she will explain the dishes to you. Enjoy bread, aioli and olives while you decide what to choose for your meal, maybe a starter of their popular pear carpaccio, topped with grilled goat's cheese or scallops with mushrooms. Main courses could showcase gilthead bream with new potatoes and spinach or meat lovers might opt for the local lamb shoulder cooked in the stone oven or venison with a dark-chocolate scented sauce. Proceedings concluded in style with chocolate coulant and ice cream or a refreshing espuma of mango.
To accompany the food there's a concise wine list that emphasises local wines, with the majority available by the glass.
