Review on The Ivy Cafe Richmond
The Ivy Cafe Richmond opened its doors on the 19th April 2017, the fourth sibling in a select group of restaurants with branches in Marylebone, Wimbledon and Clifton in Bristol, all masterminded by Richard Caring of Caprice Holdings. The décor has been devised by the well regarded Brudnizki Design Studio with their trademark antique pewter bar, vintage leather bar stools, marble floor tiling and leather banquette seating.
It's a strikingly designed contemporary venue with a flexible attitude, opening for breakfast and morning coffee before the serious foodie business of the day really begins and continues through to the early hours of the morning. The a la carte menu kicks off with a warm crispy duck salad with five spice dressing, toasted cashews, watermelon, beansprouts, coriander and ginger or maybe seared and hand cut venison tartare, seasoned with spices and served with pickled beetroot, hazelnut mayonnaise and granary toast. Fish fans will enjoy starters such as tuna carpaccio, Yellowfin tuna with tomato, watermelon, ponzu dressing, miso mayonnaise and toasted sesame. When it comes to main courses there's blackened cod fillet, baked in banana leaf with a miso glaze, spring onion, radish and herb salad and yuzu mayonnaise or you could opt for the classic Ivy Café shepherd's pie, slow braised lamb shoulder with beef and Wookey Hole Cheddar potato mash. To close the show you won't be disappointed with desserts like the melting chocolate bombe with milk foam, vanilla ice cream and honeycomb centre with hot salted caramel sauce or the strawberry ice cream sundae with vanilla ice cream with meringue, shortbread and a warm strawberry sauce.
The wine list encompasses all the major wine growing regions of the world and the cocktail menu includes offerings like The Ivy Café Royale with Hibiscus gin, sloe infusion, rose water and Cremant as well as Garden of the Abbey, Elderflower vodka, cucumber, apple, lime and cider sparkle.
