Review on Indian Accent
Indian Accent is the bright new star on Albermarle Street in the heart of affluent Mayfair, located on the former site of the long-running Chor Bizarre which was owned by the same restaurant company. Part of a group of three, this is the first London outpost from Ekatra Hospitality Ventures, a subsidiary of Old World Hospitality Group who also operate Indian Accent both in New Delhi and New York, which opened last year. The original Indian Accent in New Delhi was launched in 2009 and is listed on the World's 50 Best Restaurants, as well as being the recipient of numerous other awards.
The interiors have been transformed by Design LSM with the brand's signature pearl-lustered plastered walls and incorporating brass and marble into the chic minimalist décor. Plush green velvet banquettes line the walls and a spiral staircase leads to an intimate private dining space.
Executive chef Manish Mehotra showcases dishes with an innovative and modern twist using global techniques and influences. Open proceedings with kashmiri morels, walnut powder, parmesan papad before a mid course of langoustines, french beans and moilee. When it comes to main courses expect dishes along on the lines of wagyu, foie gras tikka and aloo methi cheela or seared scallops, rava prawns, malvani dried shrimp rice. Desserts close the show in style with makhan malai, saffron milk, rose petal jaggery brittle and almonds or doda barfi treacle tart served with vanilla bean ice cream.
Accompanying the food is a well conceived wine list to complement the spicy dishes, together with a large selection of rare whiskies and cocktails including Albemarle Chai Punch, a house-made milk punch with Batavia Arrack, Earl Grey tea, and Virgin Amaro.
