Review on Yuu Kitchen
Yuu Kitchen is an Asian inspired restaurant located a short walk from Aldgate East underground from the founders of Icebar in Mayfair. A casual and relaxed dining experience designed for communal eating there's a high turquoise table taking centre stage with bar stools, with further eight-seater tables around the sides. A funky room by award winning design consultancy Rockett with bird cage lighting, the walls are decorated with special commissioned manga art, based on comic book pop culture by Hong Kong artist Lunatic.
Taking the reins in the kitchen is Jon de Villa whose resume includes acclaimed kitchens such as Nobu, Nobu Berkeley and Zafferano, and he presents a menu inspired by his Filipino heritage and travels across Asia. Diners can choose dishes such as the popular Taiwanese Bao bun with twice cooked 7Up braised pork belly, bbq sauce, cucumber pickles and peanuts or from the Crunch section of the menu prawn kataifi with wasabi mayo and yuzu tobiko. From the Grill and Wok there's grilled duck hearts with pickled red onion and bbq sauce or if fish is your fancy opt for the poke, an Hawaiian themed salad of mixed raw fish, sesame citrus dressing and corn chips. Completing the picture are desserts such as ice-cream Baos or chocolate filled spring rolls served with a selection of ice-creams.
To accompany the food there's wine, beer and fizz on tap, a sake menu, Asian inspired cocktails and craft beers.
