Review on Aster
Two minutes from Victoria station, Aster is rapidly making its mark in the foodie destination of the Nova development, part of the D&D London collection of restaurants. A 10,000 sq ft space set over two floors in the style of a European Grand Cafe, with a lively ground floor café, deli and wine bar, with the main restaurant, cocktail bar and private dining rooms on the first floor. Designed by acclaimed Russell Sage Studios the ground floor has a neutral palette with brass detailing, marble and timber finishes. A striking staircase leads to the elegant upstairs dining room and cocktail bar with stylish pendant lighting, floor to ceiling windows have views over Victoria.
Upstairs the a la carte menu is more refined with starters in the shape of cured salmon, sea buckthorn curd, capers and liquorice or foie gras, smoked eel ballotine and quince chutney. Mains promise anything from venison saddle, red cabbage, juniper and blackberry sauce or from the sea roast skrei cod, provencale vegetables and black olive jus. There's a tempting selection of desserts to finish with a raspberry mousse, hazelnut cake, poached rhubarb and sorbet or a coconut pannacotta served with basil shortbread and lingonberries.
Aster has a comprehensive wine menu with some lovely choices by the glass, Aquavit, Mezcal and signature cocktails like Akka, Freya, clementine, sugar, lemon, strawberry and topped with Chartreuse air, as well as draft Pistonhead lager from Sweden.
