Review on The Ivy Cobham Brasserie
The Ivy Cobham Brasserie continues the expansion of Richard Caring's group of restaurants, located in the former premises of La Rive in the upmarket Surrey village of Cobham, by the River Mole. Set in an 18th century building it has undergone a glamorous refurbishment by the acclaimed Martin Brudnizki Design Studio. There's an Arancia onyx bar with tan leather stools, while curved button cushioned leather banquettes and blue armchairs are set against tables laid with crisp linen. A vivid display of eclectic paintings decorate the walls together with antique brass mirrors. When the weather is warm guests can dine al fresco in their lovely leafy garden.
Executive Chef Sean Burbridge has devised the menus for this all-day venue which runs right through from breakfast to dinner, via morning coffee, weekend brunch, lunches and afternoon tea. Enjoy starters like tuna carpaccio, Yellowfin tuna with ponzu dressing, avocado purée, toasted sesame and coriander shoots before moving on to a classic main course of The Ivy Cobham shepherd's pie, slow-braised lamb shoulder with beef and Wookey Hole Cheddar potato mash. For fish fans there's salmon and smoked haddock fish cake, spinach and herb sauce with a soft poached hen's egg, baby watercress or blackened cod fillet baked in a banana leaf with baby pak choi, shaved radish, toasted sesame and yuzu mayonnaise. Lip-smacking desserts close the show with a melting chocolate bombe with a vanilla ice cream and honeycomb centre paired with hot salted caramel sauce or opt for the apple tart fine, baked apple tart with vanilla ice cream and Calvados flambé.
To match the food there's a comprehensive wine list and cocktails such as The Cobham Royale, Hibiscus gin, sloe infusion, rose water and Cremant.
