Review on The Ivy City Garden
Offering a tranquil respite from the Square Mile, The Ivy City Garden is a sequel to the The Ivy Chelsea Garden, located in one of London's few historic garden squares, Bishopsgate Garden. Set next door to the famous St. Botolph Church, it joins an upmarket collection of restaurants that are springing up all over London and the counties.
Inside it follows the trademark luxurious d้cor of its siblings, created by acclaimed architect Martin Brudnizki Design Studio with a stylish palette of blue, mustard yellow and burnt orange. Featuring a lovely summer water fountain, floor to ceiling windows open out onto a lush garden with it's own bar, and a retractable roof allows guests to enjoy the setting all year round.
Despite the glamorous surroundings, this is an easy-going place that is equally suited to morning coffee and a hearty breakfast, a quick business lunch or leisurely evening entertaining. Executive Chef Sean Burbridge has created a variety of menus to suit all occasions using carefully sourced ingredients. Why not opt for a starter of duck liver parfait with caramelised hazelnuts, truffle, tamarind glaze with pear and ginger compote and toasted brioche before moving on to their signature dish of The Ivy shepherd's pie, slow-braised lamb shoulder with beef and Wookey Hole Cheddar potato mash. If you prefer fish there's ample choice witness grilled whole lobster paired with garlic and parsley butter with watercress and thick cut chips or blackened cod fillet baked in a banana leaf with baby pak choi, shaved radish, toasted sesame and yuzu mayonnaise. To finish the array of desserts include upmarket offerings like apple tart fine, baked apple tart with vanilla ice cream Calvados flamb้ or chocolate bombe, melting chocolate bombe with a vanilla ice cream and honeycomb centre with hot salted caramel sauce.
The wine list roams far and wide in search of quality and there's also tasty cocktails served at the stunning onyx bar like City Thyme, a martini made from Bimber blackcurrant vodka, fresh watermelon, lemon and thyme.
