Review on Omar's Place
Omar's Place occupies a corner position on Cambridge and Hugh Street in the heart of Pimlico, just a short walk from Victoria Station and Sloane Square underground. It's the brainchild of Egyptian-born restaurateur Omar Shabaan, whose hospitality brand of restaurants and hotels, Andrea Mariouteya in Egypt have been family owned for over 60 years. The Grade II listed building has been transformed by Sella Concept in collaboration with architecture consultancy Wilson Holloway, featuring a vaulted ceiling and a rustic Mediterranean palette, with marble table tops and fluted banquettes.
Mallorcan chef Vicente Fortea spearheads the kitchen where he proposes contemporary Mediterranean dishes, ideal for sharing in the warm and lively ambience. Squid tartare is served on lemon with a seawater foam or opt for the beetroot and green pea hummus straws. Elsewhere there's beef tartar and fois gras meringues or larger plates like grilled octopus tentacle or crispy Andalusian-style fried turbot. For a sweet-toothed finale there's Torrija a caramelised bread and butter pudding paired with coffee ice cream.
There's an excellent wine list to accompany the dishes, a good selection of whiskies and a well curated cocktail menu.
